NAEGA Conference in Nashville

The mission of the North American Export Grains Association is to promote and sustain the reliability of commercial agricultural exports. NAEGA is the global leader in shaping commercial solutions rooted in contractual expertise, commercial knowledge and industry innovation. The organization maintains a steadfast commitment to outcomes that are risk proportionate and science based.

It has bee my pleasure to photograph the annual NAEGA conference for 3 years now. This year’s program was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Nashville, TN. After remarks from the leadership team, including Matt Hopkins and Alejandra Castillo, three Senior Advisors were recognized for their years of dedication and service. There was a brief board meeting to discuss the business of NAEGA. And finally, the Trade Outlook Program included a number of excellent speakers and panelists from the US and Canada. After the closing remarks, I had the pleasure of photographing a group photo of all attendees, a Board of Directors photo, and a variety of headshots for those who needed an update.

Renewable Fuels Association – National Ethanol Conference Closing Reception

Once again, it was an absolute pleasure to photograph the National Ethanol Conference for the Renewable Fuels Association!

The National Ethanol Conference (NEC) is the most widely attended executive-level conference for the ethanol industry. Past events have welcomed industry leaders from across the United States and 20 countries. Since 1996, the Renewable Fuels Association’s NEC has been recognized as the ethanol conference for the latest, most timely information on marketing, legislative, and regulatory issues facing the industry. With numerous networking opportunities, more business meetings are conducted and more contacts are made at this conference than at any other ethanol conference world wide!

This year’s conference was held at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando Florida. After all the meetings, speakers, and panel discussions, it was time to relax and enjoy the beautiful Florida weather. The “Havana Nights” themed closing reception was a huge hit and a great way to wrap up another successful NEC conference!

Panama Wildlife in El Valle de Anton

When I got hired to photograph a major international conference in Panama for the US Grains & Bioproducts Council, Cami and I decided to fly down a few days early and enjoying all the beautiful nature and wildlife! We had visited Panama about a decade earlier, and fell in love with the country. Being a neighbor of Costa Rica, it has many of the same gorgeous tropical birds. And it even has some really cool indiginous wildlife found nowhere else on the planet, like the Golden Frog!

The Panamanian golden frog (Atelopus zeteki) is a critically endangered, highly poisonous frog—actually a toad—that uses a unique, hand-waving “semaphore” signal to communicate near loud, rushing mountain streams. Native only to Panama, they are a national symbol of luck and prosperity. Unfortunately, they are now believed to be extinct in the wild due to a deadly invasive fungus. Our decision to stay in El Valle de Anton during our time in Panama was largely based on the fact that the El Valle Amphibian Conservation Center Foundation (EVACC), which was the organization that saw the effects of this terrible fungus and sprang into action to save as many Golden Frogs as possible from the wild, was just a mile up the road from our hotel! We visited EVACC on the last day of our trip, and were lucky enough to see one of these amazing amphibians that was part of their breeding program.

The hotel where we stayed was aptly named the Golden Frog Inn. It was a beautiful oasis, with large spacious rooms, friendly staff, a nice sized pool, picturesque grounds, and an excellent in-house restaurant. The property was built on the side of what looked like a steep mountain. When in fact, we were literally perched on the inner “wall” of a crater, with views of the rim towering behind us, and views of the town far below in the “bowl”! El Valle de Antón is a unique town located inside the caldera of one of the world’s largest inhabited, inactive volcanoes, which last erupted roughly 300,000 years ago. Known for its cool, spring-like climate year-round, it offers a dramatic escape from Panama City’s heat, surrounded by lush cloud forests, hot springs, and hiking trails.

Speaking of trails, the highlight of our stay was when we met up with our bird guide at the famous Canopy Lodge for a fun day of “birding”! Although it was unusually windy and rainy for this time of year, which made the hiking trails a bit muddy, we still managed to spot a TON of unbelievable wildlife in the span of our 6-hour tour. We had booked a Day Hike. But many of the other guests on our tour were actually staying at the lodge. We had inquired about staying there. However, they didn’t have availability for our dates. And although they had unbelievable bird stations attracting all kinds of activity, we honestly liked our accomodations at Golden Frog Inn better.

Besides all the wildlife, we enjoyed spending time in El Valle. It has a charming, peaceful atmosphere about it. There aren’t as many ex-pats living here as there are in other parts of Panama, like Bokete, Coronado, Volcan, or Playa Blanca. So we had to rely more heavily on my broken Spanish and our Google Translate app than we expected. But it was charming to barter with the locals while shopping at the farmers market, or mime our way through ordering a meal at the local restaurants. We also visited the Serpentario Maravillas Tropicales, a small family owned serpentarium…as well as Mariposario del Valle, the local butterfly sanctuary.

Our biggest regret was that we hadn’t booked a longer visit to this beauitul country! The locals seem so happy, everyone is incredibly nice, the healthcare system is amazing (and affordable), prices are reasonable (although not necessarily “cheap”), nature and wildlife abound, the climate is great, they use the US dollar for currency (nice not to have to do cartwheels in your head to figure out what you’re spending), crime is virtually non-existent, and the economy is in great shape! Who knows…maybe we’ll be back to Panama for another visit some day in the future???

Michele & Dominic’s Micro Wedding at Wentworth Mansion

There is something incredibly special about a micro wedding. Michele and Dominic’s intimate celebration at the Wentworth Mansion was the perfect reminder that you don’t need a large guest list to create a truly meaningful and elegant wedding day. With just their eight immediate family members present, every moment felt personal, intentional, and deeply heartfelt.

I began the day photographing their getting ready moments inside the mansion’s beautifully restored rooms. The historic architecture and soft window light created the perfect setting for those quiet, anticipatory moments before the ceremony. Michele looked absolutely stunning, and Dominic’s excitement was evident in every smile.

Their ceremony was especially touching, performed by Dominic’s brother. That personal connection added such warmth and authenticity to the vows. With only their closest family surrounding them, there was an intimacy that made every glance and every word feel even more powerful. Afterward, we captured relaxed family portraits, followed by a fun and romantic session with just the newlyweds.

One of my favorite parts of the day was exploring the historic backdrops around the mansion with Michele and Dominic. I truly enjoyed getting to know them better as we wandered the grounds, creating gorgeous images along the way. We wrapped up their portraits in the cupola, overlooking the Charleston skyline during that magical blue hour. The dramatic deep blue tones of dusk, paired with the sweeping views of over the city, made for some unforgettable images.

I photographed everything using two Nikon Z9 bodies, paired with the Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II, the Nikkor Z 70-180mm f/2.8, and the Nikkor Z 105mm f/2.8 Micro for those detailed ring and décor shots. It was the perfect setup for capturing everything from key moments to intimate details. The quality, creativity, and diversity this setup provides is truly spectacular!

After our grand finale together on the cupola, Michele and Dominic joined their family for a celebratory dinner at the famous Circa 1886 Restaurant while I packed up. I am always so grateful when I get to do what I love, while meeting and working with such wonderful people, capturing all the special moments of their big day! Michele and Dominic’s wedding was elegant, heartfelt, and a true joy to document. Days like this are exactly why I love what I do.

Marketing Photos for the Charleston County School District

I recently had the fantastic opportunity to photograph team portraits and marketing photos for the Charleston County School District (CCSD). This shoot was particularly special as the images will be featured in an upcoming magazine article highlighting their impactful work in our community. CCSD is dedicated to inspiring and nurturing the potential of all students, providing innovative educational programs and support that empower young people to succeed. You can learn more about their mission and initiatives at www.ccsdschools.com.

The session took place at their office on 75 Calhoun Street, which is currently undergoing an exciting interior uplift. I even got a sneak peek behind the scenes of what the new offices will look like! Using my Nikon Z9 along with the new Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8 II lens, I was able to capture the team’s dynamic personalities and dedication to education in vivid detail. I also utilized my DJI Mavic 3 Pro drone to capture a few shots from unique angles.

Many thanks to Michelle for coordinating everyone’s schedules! It was a genuine pleasure to work with such a passionate team. And I look forward to seeing the final article featuring our collaborative efforts!!!

Maddie & Mark’s Engagement Session on Kiawah Island

Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing Maddie and Mark’s engagement session in the picturesque Cassique neighborhood on Kiawah Island. The evening was perfect, bathed in the warm glow of golden hour, creating an enchanting atmosphere for capturing their love story.

As I arrived, the stunning scenery of lush landscapes and charming Southern architecture set the stage for a great session. My camera of choice wsa the Nikon Z9! It’s exceptional image quality and fast autofocus, ensuring that every candid moment reflected Maddie and Mark’s genuine joy and connection. I used the Nikkor Z 24-70 f2.8 II and the Nikkor Z 70-180 f2.8 for their incredible sharpness and beautiful bokeh. To add depth and dimension to certain shots, I used a Godox AD200 off-camera flash, creatively enhancing the images without overpowering the natural light. Plus a few shots on the DJI Mini 3 Pro added a unique perspective!

We explored different nooks and crannies of Cassique, from tree-lined pathways to waterfront vistas…ending up on a really cool wooden bridge over the marsh. I encouraged Maddie and Mark to interact naturally, allowing their personalities to shine through the lens. Their laughter and loving glances documented not just the moment but their deep connection to one another. The session culminated in a stunning sunset, with the sky painted in shades of orange and pink, resulting in breathtaking images. Each photograph not only captured a moment in time but also a reflection of their love, and their future together.

I felt a real connection with Maddie and Mark’s…and I loved hearing about their love story. I am honored to have been a part of this memorable experience and can’t wait to see where their journey takes them next!

Brandy & Dan’s Beach Wedding on IOP

Capturing Brandy & Dan’s beautiful beach wedding on Isle of Palms was an absolute pleasure!!!

With 30 years of experience as a professional wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing countless unforgettable moments. But Brandy and Dan’s intimate beach wedding on IOP truly touched my heart. Set against the stunning backdrop of this serene barrier island, the ceremony was a perfect blend of natural beauty and heartfelt emotion. It was an intimate affair with 20 of their closest family and friends, creating a warm, loving atmosphere that felt more like a family reunion than a typical wedding.

Brandy & Dan rented a charming beach house to serve as the backdrop for their big day. I was thrilled to capture all the special moments of their ceremony on the soft, breezy sand right in front of it. The gentle waves, blue skies, and candid laughter added to the magic of the day. I loved documenting every smile, every meaningful glance, and the affectionate exchanges that made this celebration so unique. My favorite was the touching sand ceremony, where each of their lovely children blended layers of various colored sands into an amazing piece of art…much the same way that Brandy & Dan have blended their two families! Moments like these remind me why I love this profession—preserving love stories in their most genuine form.

It was an absolute joy to be part of Brandy and Dan’s beautiful beginning. I left inspired by their love, their commitment, and their unique connection that made this wedding truly special.
