Stono River Retreat for Allen Design

I’ve known Elizabeth at Allen Design for many years. It’s been such a joy to watch her creativity grow, expand, and reach its full potential. The homes she is designing these days are absolutely AMAZING!!! And I have to say, this one she created on the banks of the Stono River is one of my favorites.

“Allen Design, Inc. is a full service architecture firm located in Charleston, South Carolina specializing in Custom Home Design and Residential Architecture. Our roots are firmly planted here, and we draw inspiration from the rich architectural tradition of Charleston and the warm landscape of the South Carolina Lowcountry. As a small firm, Allen Design offers its clients a unique experience that begins and ends with personal attention. Each phase of the design from the initial meeting to the project completion is handled professionally with a great attention to detail and a diligent pursuit of design excellence.”

On top of Elizabeth’s amazing plans, her husband Greg is one of the most highly sought after home builders in Charleston. As with this project, they frequently team up together to offer the best of both worlds to their clients. Greg and his team of contractors have been together a really long time. So they click like clockwork, finishing huge projects faster, more efficiently, and with a higher level of quality than most builders!

It was an absolute pleasure photographing this beautiful James Island home for Greg and Elizabeth. I can’t wait to see their next incredible creation!!!

New Projects for Trident Construction

During this COVID-19 lock-down, Cami and I have been extremely grateful to our clients who have continued to keep us afloat by sending assignments our way.

One such client is Trident Construction! Since they are considered an “essential business” their building projects have continued to move forward in spite of the economic downturn. In fact, one job Superintendent told me her schedule has been even busier than usual since this COVID-19 pandemic started! Everyone at Trident Construction has been so fantastic to work with.

Since the governor has told us we’re allowed to continue providing photographic services as long as we can maintain safe social-distancing, photographing these construction projects has been one of those assignments we can still do safely! I get to photograph these beautiful buildings while they are still fresh, clean, and yet unoccupied. I’m either photographing from across the room with wide-angle lenses, or shooting with a drone from hundreds of feet away.

Here are a couple favorites from the Lowcountry Women’s Specialists project and the Berkeley Medical building that I photographed this week.

Wildcat Senior Living Site Development

Wildcat Senior Living is coming to Cane Bay Plantation in Goose Creek! This will be an all-inclusive Independent and Assisted Living facility, opening in 2021.

Yesterday I had the honor of photographing aerial drone photos of the property site under developement. It’s in a beatufiul area near a main intersection at the back of Cane Bay Plantation. There are already several other excellent residential areas that are filling up quickly in this area. So it’s going to be an exciting place to live with a lot going on!

Many thanks to Jordan & John at Live Shephard for bringing me on board for this project. It was a pleasure serving you gentleman and capturing your vision!!!

Cougar Point Golf Club

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing the new Cougar Point Golf Club on Kiawah Island. This is my favorite shot from the series. It’s an aerial panoramic photo, comprised of 9 images from my DJI Mavic Pro.

Rogers & Brown Building for Trident Construction

Last week I had the privilege of photographing the brand new Rogers & Brown building for Trident Construction!

Rogers & Brown was founded in 1968 in Charleston, South Carolina, growing from a humble, one room operation into a truly international logistics company providing a full range of transportation services. They’ve expanded so much that their distribution center is massive, and they’ve outgrown their old office. Their new office is beautiful!

It’s been a pleasure working with and photographing projects for Trident Construction over the last few years. Since 1981, Trident Construction has repeatedly earned the trust of their clients, subcontractors and design professionals by working collaboratively and diligently on every project. They’ve built an awesome reputation in the industry. But my favorite part about the company is their people! I highly recommend them if you’re looking for a great commercial contractor to work with.

PGA Media Day

I had the pleasure of photographing the PGA Championships on Kiawah Island back in 2012…before they ejected me for being where I shouldn’t. Some photographers are so annoying, always trying to be creative and trying to capture something unique. Why can’t they all just shoot the same boring images, from the same exact location as the other 50 photographers out there?!? 😉 Luckily, all is forgiven.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of being the official photographer for the 2021 PGA Championships Media Day at The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island. Julius Mason, Senior Director of Public Awareness for the PGA, hosted the press conference. Special guests included former US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, Director of the PGA Championship, Scott Reid, President of Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Roger Warren, and Charleston Mayor, John Tecklenburg.

After an excellent presentation, panel discussion, and Q&A session, everyone was invited to a wonderful networking luncheon. With gloved hands and hightened security, the Wannamaker Trophy was placed on a beautiful wooden table just outside the lunch area where I had set up a photo station. It was a lot of fun photographing participants and seeing the excitement in their eyes as the pose with this historic hardware!

I’m looking forward to seeing some awesome golf in 20201!!!

VCO Media Day

It’s been 20 years since the Volvo Car Open chose Charleston as its new home!!! It’s hard to believe I’ve been the tournament’s official photographer for about 3/4 of that time. What an honor it was to see many of my photos of past champions on display!

To celebrate this milestone, the VCO hosted a Media Day at the beautiful Dewberry Hotel rooftop. Last year’s champion, Madison Keys, was a special guest…as were Mayor Tecklenburg, Tournament Director Bob Moran, Tournament Manager Eleanor Adams, Stephanie Mangini of Volvo Car USA, Helen Hill from the Charleston Visitors Bureau, and Richard Todd who is “The Voice” of the tournament. The event was hosted by America’s sweetheart, former #1 tennis player, Tracy Austin.

After the press conference, tennis demonstration, and networking luncheon, Madison and Tracy got a private tour of the new Meeting Street Academy, where Maddy shared about her new Kindness Wins initiative.

“Madison Keys has a passion for kindness. The 25-year-old American tennis star has made that passion into a mission, launching her new Kindness Wins initiative, a chance for Keys to embrace positivity and provide a platform to spread encouragement both within and outside the world of sports.”

It was a real pleasure being selected to photograph the VCO Media Day! Happy 20th Anniversary to the Volvo Car Open!!!

Headshots for Seamon Whiteside

Seamon Whiteside has been growing and expanding! I had so much fun returning to photograph the newest members of their amazing team.

We selected a low-key lighting style for their head-shots.  A dark background and some directional lighting created the look they like.  I used 2 SB-5000 flashes in a Westcott 50″ Apollo Softbox as the main light source.  This was augmented by two flanking rim lights, each created with an SB-5000 in a Westcott Strip Box.  All images were shot with a Nikon D5 and 70-200 f2.8 VRII.

As you can probably tell, some of my favorites are the “outtakes” where I was just goofing off to get each subject to relax and have fun with their photo shoot.  🙂

USGC 17th Internationall Marketing Conference – Day 3

Last week I had the pleasure of Photographing the US Grains Council’s 17th International Marketing Conference at the Hilton Downtown Tampa, Florida. It also happened to be the Council’s 60th Annual Membership Meeting, which made it extra special!

In keeping with Chairman Darren Armstrong’s theme of “Make Something Happen”, members had opportunities to visit directly with the Council’s staff from around the globe, build relationships with them, and deepen their understanding of the critical efforts they undertake for the US grains industry. In addition, Advisory Teams held in-depth meetings, offering the chance to provide recommendations to develop markets, enable trade and improve lives. Plus of course there was an incredible lineup of fantastic speakers, experts, and panels during the general session.

After three long but fulfilling days together, everyone left the meeting with a renewed dedication to the work at hand of promoting coarse grains and ethanol exports for US farmers. And I left with a sense of accomplishment at having faced the many challenges of dark conference rooms and grueling 12-hour days loaded down with camera gear, to come away with a collection of images that truly captured the spirit of the event!
