Russell Family at The Ocean Course

I did a little “rain dance” in my car on my way out to Kiawah Island last night. I was under a clearing in the sky. But all around me dark storm clouds threatened!

It must have worked because the rains held off just long enough for The Russell’s and I to squeeze in an AMAZING family portrait session at The Ocean Course! We may have had to dance around a few raindrops here and there. But the empty beach, the dramatic light, and the SPECTACULAR sunset was so worth it.

I had so much fun with the Russell Family! Their positive energy and adventurous spirit truly paid off. Lots of families would have walked away at the sight of those clouds. But they decided to go for it…and I’m so glad they did! We had an absolute BLAST and came away with some incredibly beautiful images to commemorate their time together this summer. 🙂

Hanna & Kenny’s Wedding – The Lake House at Bulow

I had the pleasure of photographing Kenny’s brother’s wedding when Kevin and Melissa were married. Hard to believe it’s been 10 years ago now! So you can imagine my excitement when Hanna & Kenny asked me to be a part of their special day too!!!

With the current climate surrounding this pandemic, they weren’t able to have the larger event they had initially planned. But Hanna & Kenny stayed flexible, and stayed focused on the true meaning behind a wedding…their families, their commitment, and their love for one another! Re-focusing their energy into a more intimate event, this amazing couple came up with an absolutely delightful celebration! And the best part is, they are still planning to host all their friends and family for a big reception next year at a special “vow renewal”!!!

Everything was held at The Lake House at Bulow, formerly known as Bulow Plantation. It’s a wonderfully rustic venue on a quiet lake, surrounded by woods and wildlife, with an enchanting island in the middle all covered in tall pine trees. The ceremony was held on the deck, with fun family photos to follow. Then Hanna & Kenny took off with me for a fun little photo shoot around the property while cocktails were served. A relaxing dinner on the spacious lawn rounded out the evening.

Hanna was absolutely stunning in her gorgeous gown. She always has a radiant smile and a bubbly southern charm. I love how she always says “please and thank you” to everyone she meets. 🙂 Kenny was quite dashing in his tux. He’s the strong silent type, but with a dry sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye. These two are absolutely perfect for each other…true soul mates indeed!

Today is our anniversary…Cami and I were married just 25 years ago today! And so I want to share with you both a very special wish…that your lives are as filled with love, laughter, and happiness as mine has been since marrying my best friend all those years ago. CONGRATULATIONS Hanna & Kenny!!!

Wrede Family on Isle of Palms

I owe a HUGE “Thank You” to Patrick & Gina Maloney for their kindness in recommending us to their friends Doug & Chrissy!!!

While vacationing here on IOP, they wanted to do a fun beach session with their family. It was supposed to happen last night. But the CRAZY storms and lightning that covered our city had different intentions for our evening. So we pivoted to this morning and it turned out BEAUTIFUL!!! Last night’s rain had cooled things off a bit. And the cloud cover gave us a gorgeous soft palette of light to work with.

I had so much fun playing with Doug & Chrissy’s adorable kids. And we came away with some fabulous images to commemorate their time together!  🙂

Cripe Family on Kiawah Island

It rained all day…gray and dreary. But just before it was time to meet up with the Cripe Family for their family portrait session on Kiawah Island, the rain moved off and the skies cleared up!  🙂

Now living in Indianapolis, James had done his residency in Charleston at the Medical University of South Carolina years ago. So when they decided to take a little vacation, they decided to try Charleston!  The whole family had a great time relaxing on Kiawah Island, where little Caden absolutely fell in love with the ocean. We could hardly keep him out of it!

I had so much fun hanging our with this beautiful family, and capturing these fond memories of their time together. I think we’ll be seeing more of the Cripes in the future!!!

Headshots for Atlas Consulting

One nice thing about photographing head-shots is that I can stay completely compliant with all COVID-19 safety precautions! I set up in a corner where there aren’t other employees, wipe down my cameras with alcohol wipes before I arrive, wear a mask, and shoot with a telephoto lens to keep my distance!

It was a pleasure working with Atlas Consulting again last week! They are a great organization, and still growing fast in spite of the bump in the economy caused by the virus. Here are a few behind-the-scenes shots of my setup, along with a few favorites from the shoot.

If your company is ready for new head-shots, we’re ready to help!!!  Just click here to get started:  https://chrisandcami.com/contact/.

Aerial Photos for Trident Construction

I love my job!!! Sometimes I get to do the coolest assignments.

Yesterday I got to photograph aerial photos for one of my favorite clients, Trident Construction. I’ve done a lot of aerial photos for them with my drone. But we needed a few shots from a higher perspective than the drone legally allows. So we went flying in a helicopter!

Many thanks to Robert at Fly in Helicopters for setting us up, to our pilot Randy for an exceptional flight, and to Elizabeth for helping coordinate and direct the shoot!

Headshots for Lee & Associates

It was a pleasure photographing Alex this morning for our wonderful clients, Lee & Associates! He seems like a great guy and a perfect fit for the team.

I used a 2-light setup for this shoot using 4 Nikon SB-5000 flashes, 2 Westcott 60″ shoot-through umbrellas, and 2 Manfrotto light stands. The Nikon D5 with 105mm Micro lens was tethered to my Lenovo Yoga laptop for instant review and selection of final images.  After photographing a self-portrait to test the lights, Alex stepped in for his shots.  We captured a variety of poses for use in their website, bio, and other marketing material.

CONGRATULATIONS to Alex on joining a fantastic company!

Evans Family on Kiawah Island

Last year was the first year we had missed our annual “Evans Family Sunrise Shoot” on Kiawah Island for half a decade. It’s been so much fun watching their kids grow into young adults over the years! Having that gap last year made me realize how quickly they grow. I could hardly believe how big Quinn had gotten!!!

In the wee predawn hours, a pocket of rain rolled up the coast. But luckily the storm moved on just in time for us to enjoy a really peaceful morning! Temperatures were mild, having been cooled off by the rain. And there was a quiet calmness on the beach I hadn’t experienced in a while…almost no wind at all!

As usual, Geraldine had everyone dressed in coordinating outfits, all lined up and ready to go on schedule! From blue-hour till breakfast, we had so much fun clowning around and capturing fun images of their amazing family.  It was wonderful to experience another sunrise together!

Nikkor 500mm f5.6E PF ED VR

My good friend and AMAZING photographer, David Archer (www.davidarcherimages.com), was kind enough to loan me his new Nikon Nikkor 500mm f5.6 PF ED VR lens for evaluation!

Unfortunately it was during a busy time of year. So I didn’t get to do a full review or a comparison video against it’s younger sibling, the 300mm f4.0E PF ED VR. Hopefully I’ll have time to get back and do that with David.

But for now, let me just say that I am VERY impressed!!! In fact, I’m probably even more impressed with this lens than when I bought the 300mm PF, which I thought was absolutely ground-breaking! This new technology Nikon is throwing into their ultra compact and light-weight Phase Fresnel series of lenses is just magnificent!!!

I really enjoyed shooting with this super lightweight, wickedly sharp, and extremely portable telephoto lens. Most of the time I used it on the Nikon D500, giving me an effective focal length of 750mm. I even tried some with the TC14eIII 1.4x converter, giving me 1050mm of reach!

300PF
300mm f4 = 420mm f5.6 with TC14eIII
300mm f4 = 450mm f4 on DX
300mm f4 = 630mm f5.6 with TC14eIII on DX

500PF
500mm f5.6 = 700mm f8 with TC14eIII
500mm f5.6 = 750mm on DX
500mm f5.6 = 1050mm f8 with TC14eIII on DX

All total, I probably only had about 90 minutes of actual shooting time with the 500mm PF in less-than-optimal lighting conditions. Here are some of the results. I can’t imagine what I’d be able to capture if this lens somehow found a permanent place in my bag…

Huntington Family at Ocean Park

The Huntington family is growing!!! Last year I got to photograph their family portraits when they were only three. Mason is a super happy bundle of energy. And this year they added sweet adorable little Emma! 🙂

I had so much fun catching up with them and photographing some updated family portraits together. We met at the picturesque Ocean Park near The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island. It was a beautiful morning with soft light, mild temperatures, and lots of wildlife activity all around us.

CONGRATULATIONS to Will & Rebecca on their new addition!!!

Sunrise on Bulls Island

Sunrise at the boneyard beach on Bulls Island turned out to be meh. But Jamie Clark and I salvaged it with a fun impromptu modeling shoot for her beautiful daughter, Katie! Many thanks to my friends and amazing photogrpahers Kim McManus, Mary Wessner, and Cary McDonald for making it a fun morning. And a HUGE shout out to #coastalexpeditions for this incredible opportunity. This is the second-to-last sunrise expedition the company will be offering to Bulls Island. I feel lucky to have been able to experience this protected barrier island’s wild majesty one last time!

Kati & Brett in Beaufort, SC

Returning to the “scene of the crime” was so much fun!

While serving his country, stationed in Beaufort, Brett proposed to Kati near one of the park swings downtown at Waterfront Park. Although they now live in Ohio, they thought it would be so much fun to have their Engagement Photos made in the same park where they got engaged! 🙂

Cami and I met up with Kati, Brett, and their adorable girl, Leah, near the old historic district.  Kati looked so cool in her cowboy boots.  And Brett even got his hair cut for the big occasion…HA! We had so much fun walking around this charming southern town, capturing fun images of them as we went. We lived listening to them relive their time in Beaufort, and having them show us the spot where they got engaged. The icing on the cake happened when the skies opened up for a brilliant and dramatic sunset over the harbor!

CONGRATULATIONS Kati & Brett! We are so excited for you two, and can’t wait to be there for your wedding next year!!!
