Headshots for Savage Law

Welcome to the team at Savage Law, Joseph!!!

It was an honor meeting and photographing this gentleman from Hartsville who moved to Charleston to study law, fell in love and got married, and now has landed a position with one of the most respected criminal law firms in town! Congratulations on the new position…and cheers to all your future success!!!

Images captured by Nikon D5 with 70-200 f2.8 VRII lens, Manfrotto tripod and light stands, SB5000 speedlights, and Westcott modifiers.

Headshots for Weeks & Irvine

It was a pleasure photographing the new team members at Weeks & Irvine Law this morning! This is such a great firm. And they always seem to hire the nicest people!!!

I set up our wireless portrait studio in their “children’s play room”. It’s pretty tight in there! But somehow, between all the bean-bag chairs, xylophones, picture books, and puzzles, I squeezed in a 5’x7′ backdrop, 3 Manfrotto light-stands, 4 SB-5000 flashes, a 60″ Westcott umbrella, a tripod, a D5 with 70-200 f2.8 zoom, and a Lenovo laptop! 🙂

Here are a few favorites and fun out-takes…

The Principals at Lee & Associates

This morning I had the pleasure of photographing the principal leaders at Lee & Associates. I’ve been working with this organization for a long time. They are always so much fun to work with!

Arriving a few minutes early, Lizzie met me in the lobby. Lizzie is the Operations Manager and always has a good eye for photos. She and I came up with three configurations in the office that we could use to give them a variety of “looks” in a short amount of time.

I know how busy these gentleman are.  So I set everything up in such a way that we could quickly cycle from one scene to the next. I used the Nikon D850, Nikkor 24-70 f2.8, and 3 SB-5000 Speedlights. In the images with the blue glass behind them, I placed blue gels on the two background flashes to achieve that effect. Working with such a mobile and light-weight set of tools, we had all three images knocked out in about 15 minutes!

Many thanks to Lee & Associates, and especially to Lizzie for always making sure their photo shoots go so smoothly!

Executive Portraits for First Citizens Bank

I love working with people who love their jobs!

This morning I had the privilege of photographing more head-shots for First Citizens Bank. I have to say they are the nicest, kindest, funnest (is that a word?!?) people to work with!!! Everyone is so cheerful with each other and encouraging of one another. We laughed and joked all afternoon.

Many thanks to Katie for all her hard work organizing the shoot and scheduling all the appointments! 🙂

Nikon SB-5000 does Head-shots for Clawson & Staubes

After receiving the new Nikon SB-5000 a few days ago, I put it through all the rigorous paces to make sure everything was working perfectly, and that I knew what every button and menu item did. This is Nikon’s latest, most advanced speedlight…and it has a few new tricks over previous models. I’ll get into those in a later post! 🙂

Yesterday was my first assignment with the new flashes, and they worked BEAUTIFULLY!!! I was photographing environmental head-shots of new attorneys for one of my favorite clients, Clawson & Staubes.

The images were made with a Nikon D4, Nikkor 70-200 VRII, an SB-5000 on the camera, running as the Master in CLS mode, and two SB-800 flashes as remotes, firing through a 24″ softbox. Everything ran beautifully! The new flash recycles extremely fast…the size is smaller…and the design of the button layout is even more user-friendly than all previous generations I’ve worked with.  The best part is, it’s completely backwards compatible with all other Creative Lighting System flashes!

Next, I’ll be working with the new Advanced Wireless Lighting (AWL) radio mode. Stay tuned…

US Grains Council at Tavern on 4th

After a long day of debates, lectures, presentations, and discussions…it’s always good to relax and have some fun!

I had the honor of photographing this wonderful corporate event at Tavern on 4th in Louisville, KY, for the US Grains Council last month. It was a really neat location, with tons of games and entertainment for folks to participate in. The resulting laughter and lively conversation was great for team-building and making new friends!

I absolutely love photographing company parties and exciting galas like this one!!!
