Hailey’s High School Senior Portraits

Hailey’s family has been coming to the Charleston beaches for summer vacations throughout her childhood. So it was fitting that she asked to have her senior portraits done here while they were in town!

A late afternoon shower had us worried that we might not be able to get it in. But the rains let up just a few minutes before we started, leaving us with beautiful soft light to work with!

Hailey was absolutely adorable, and such a pleasure to work with! She’s an amazing athlete, attacking soccer and lacrosse with a passion. She has an infectious smile. And she’s brimming with positive energy!

We had so much fun exploring historic downtown Charleston, coming up with a wide variety of picturesque backdrops to help make Hailey’s senior portraits unique and different from all her classmates back home! 🙂

Silverio Family at Hampton Park

A gentle breeze and soft lighting gave us the PERFECT evening for a summer family portrait session! I met up with the Silverio Family at the picturesque Hampton Park. They were in town enjoying their bi-annual family reunion. It was especially neat to have grandma Jean with us, celebrating her 83rd trip around the sun!

Many thinks to Cynthia for helping organize everyone. We had a BLAST and came away with some wonderful images!

Molnar Family on Folly Beach

It was only been 55-degrees outside that day…BRRRR!!! But the Molnar Family were on vacation from Michigan. Joy said “this is like Summer to us”! That put things into perspective. 🙂 So we met up at Folly Beach County Park for their family portrait session as planned.

While they were dressed in their shorts and summer dress, I was bundled up in my jeans and sweater. But the instant we met each other, the temperature simply didn’t matter. The Molnar family are the kindest, warmest people you could ever hope to meet! We hit it off immediately!!! With me going to college in Michigan, and Cami’s love for dogs, meeting this beautiful family was like re-connecting with old family friends.

We had a BLAST photographing some beautiful portraits for them to commemorate this special Christmas get-away! What a warm and wonderful family!!!

Gadol Family in Leopard Print

Toni and Billy are so fun and creative!!!
With this year’s family portrait session they dug back to the Great Gatsby days for a high-fashion look, complete with leather pants, bow ties, and leopard-print! We had so much fun wandering the charming streets of downtown, discovering historic backdrops to compliment the eclectic theme of their photo shoot. 🙂

Nikon Z6II First Impressions

I’ve been extremely happy with my “Holy Trinity” of Nikon cameras…the D5, D850, and D500. In my opinion, these are 3 of the most formidable DSLR cameras on the market. They have similar menus, focusing systems, and ergonomics…allowing me to seamlessly switch from one to another. Yet they each have their unique strengths! D5 = fast and durable with extreme high-iso performance. D850 = high resolution with fantastic dynamic range. D500 = light and nimble with extra reach from the crop sensor.

Until recently, mirrorless cameras have been lacking. But with new strides in mirrorless technology, I thought I should get out and play with one! So I called my friend David Archer, who recently purchased a Nikon Z6II. And I called my friend Gary Coleman, who is also considering adding a Z6II to his lineup as well. My friend Valerie Weeks brought her beautiful daughter, Bethany. And my friend Sarah Hairell brought Brian, an exchange student from Tanzania who is staying with them. Bethany and Brian were fantastic models and we had so much fun working with them!  Gary was hilarious to work with, as usual!  And David was so kind and generous to let us play with his camera and answer questions for us.

So what do I think of the Z6II after about an hour of real-world experience? It’s a pretty cool little camera!!! It doesn’t seem to have the same “robustness” as my DSLR bodies. But it is smaller and lighter. It doesn’t have the same speed and responsiveness that I’m used to. But it certainly is quieter. It will take a little getting used to the EVF. But being able to “see” the exposure through the electronic viewfinder is pretty cool. There will be a small learning curve to get acquainted with the new menu items. But ergonomically it still feels as “at home” as any other Nikon in my hands. There are definitely a couple things I truly wish Nikon had included, such as the 10-pin terminal for use with their wireless flash transmitter. But there are certain things that I absolutely loved, such as the eye-detect autofocus system!

The Z6II is a beautiful little camera! I’m sure one will find it’s way into my bag soon. In the meantime, I can’t wait to see what the next generation of mirrorless cameras will bring!!!

Lawrimore Family along the Ashley River

I owe a HUGE thank you to my friends Bobby & Jennifer Lauman for referring me to the Lawrimore Family.

This was a particularly special photo shoot because we were also commemorating amazing achievements in the Boy Scouts for these two young men! Well done, guys!!! While we were at it, they changed outfits and we captured some fun family portraits as well. 🙂

What was particularly unique for me was the beautiful location they had picked for the photos. Their family often comes down this path behind their neighborhood to fish or go kayaking in the Ashley River. We had so much fun! Plus we ended up with a beautiful day with gorgeous light to work with!!!

Hogg Family at Hampton Park

Cited as the location of the very first Memorial Day celebration, Hampton Park was originally part of Orange Grove Plantation, and later bought by the South Carolina Jockey Club on which to build stables and host a popular horse race. Today it’s the largest park on the Charleston peninsula and one of my favorite locations for portrait sessions!

I had so much fun Friday photographing the Hogg Family at this beautiful park. The flowers were in bloom, the summer foliage was full, the huge oaks were as mighty as ever! Now living in Nevada, James is originally from England, and Jacquiline’s heritage comes from the Netherlands. I always enjoy meeting such unique families who have traveled the world!

It was an honor and a pleasure getting to know them and their amazing kids as we enjoyed this wonderful summer evening together in Charleston!!!

Savannah’s Senior Portraits

We’ve known Savannah and her family for years!!! It’s been such a pleasure watching Savannah grow from this adorable little girls into the beautiful young ladies she’s become. So it was with great honor that I got to photograph her Senior Portraits last evening! We are so proud of Savannah and all that she’s accomplished. Clemson is lucky to have her!!! 🙂

Izzy & Chance’s Senior Portrait Sessions

I love photographing Senior Portrait Sessions. But what’s even more fun is when I get to photograph a double-session for an AMAZING couple like Izzy & Chance!!!

I was so excited when Tena and Tammy (Izzy & Chance’s parents) called to set up a double photo shoot for these two. They are all from Thomson, GA, and had planned a family get-away this weekend. They thought it would be really cool to get some amazing photos of their kids that would be unique and different from the ones Izzy & Chance’s friends were getting back home. What a cool idea!

After driving into Charleston Friday afternoon, I met up with both families at Folly Beach for Part 1 of their photo shoot. We had decided to do some beach portraits. I love Folly Beach County Park for its perfect views of the sunset. We lucked out with a gorgeous evening and a fantastic sunset!

The next morning we all met at White Point Garden for Part 2. This was a great location from which to explore the heart of old historic downtown Charleston. We had a fun walk-about as we discovered great avenues of trees, black iron gates, and old brick walls to use for backdrops. As a grand-finale, we also zipped over to Rainbow Row to mix in some of those cotton-candy colored houses.

Izzy was so beautiful and had such a delightful smile. Chance was quite dashing and so much fun. We all had a BLAST and came away with some wonderful images to preserve this special time in their lives.  CONGRATULATIONS Izzy & Chance!!!

Muro Family on Isle of Palms

Every year I look forward with great anticipation to hanging out with and photographing the amazing Muro clan during their vacation to Isle of Palms!

We got rained out the night before, but quickly pivoted to this morning. It turned out to be a glorious day! The kids were all excited and full of energy. The sun finally peaked out from between the thunderclouds.  We all had so much fun!  🙂

Many thanks to Susan for all her hard work corralling and organizing this crazy crew!!!

Johnston Family on Isle of Palms

Originally from the Greenville area, like most extended families these days the Johnstons are now all spread out. Individuals are following their dreams, from a Physical Therapist in Bristow to a dentist in Spartanburg, from a computer engineer in San Antonio to an attorney in Greenville. But they all come together once a year to re-connect those family ties!

I had the pleasure of meeting up with them at their beach house on IOP yesterday to capture some fun family memories. In addition to the usual family photos, we also celebrated Brook and her friends graduating college. Congratulations to them as they embark on a new journey following THEIR dreams!

It was a beautiful evening and I had a great time getting to know the three sisters and their families. Thanks for allowing me to be part of this year’s reunion, Susan, Stacey, and Cara!!!
