YAY!!! Another great summer beach session with one of my all-time-favorite families! š
Watkins Family on Hilton Head Island
Our favorite clients are personal referrals from good friends and family. So when friend, neighbor, client, and collaborator, Mackenzie Citro of Just Kenzie Jewelry asked us if we could photograph her cousin’s beautiful family when they were vacationing on Hilton Head Island, we were so honored!
Celebrating their parent’s 70th birthdays, the Watkins Family rented a beautiful house in the immaculate Sea Pines Resort for the week. I met up with them on a beautiful evening, for a fun beach family photo shoot. On the boardwalk to the beach, a magical scene with the sun filtering through the trees reminded me of an enchanted forest from a distant fairy-tale. From there we continued on to the beach, where the evening light, summer breeze, and soft blue skies were a picture perfect scene every photographer hopes for!
The kids did great! And everyone was so much fun to work with! Many thanks to Emily for coordinating everything. And CONGRATULATIONS to Ron & Susan…may you have many many more!!!

Kiawah Island Sunrise Family Session
I had another AMAZING family portrait session with the Evans gang this year!
For something different, we decided to do a sunrise session…which was GORGEOUS!!! Being on the east coast, sunrise is the only time we get to actually have the sun on the horizon in the photos. We lucked out with some dramatic clouds. Plus there was hardly anyone else on the beach that early…so we had it ALL to ourselves!
I loved everyone’s enthusiasm and we all had a blast creating these summer memories for this wonderful family! š
Martin Family on Kiawah Island
Hailing from Ohio, our old stomping grounds before moving here, I had so much fun hanging out with the Martin Family on Kiawah Island last night!
This was their first time vacationing to the Charleston area…and their first time being professionally photographed all together as a family! What an HONOR for me to be a part of their first family beach portrait session!!! I hope the experience didn’t hurt tooooooo much. š
Many thanks to Amy for organizing everything. You have a lovely family.Ā It would be a real treat to photograph you guys again any time!!!
Mahoney Family on Isle of Palms
Last night we had the BEST beach portrait session weather we’ve had all summer! A late afternoon shower came through town and cooled things off. The wind wasn’t too strong. Ā And the light was soft and beautiful. Ā Add to all that, how much fun the AMAZING Mahoney Family was to work with, and you have the makings of a wonderful beach portrait session!
I met up with this crazy gang on Isle of Palms. Part of their family lives on IOP. Others drove down to visit from Ohio. So it was the perfect opportunity to gather everyone to gather in one place for some family photos! Ā Not to mention that we were celebrating a major milestone as well.
Many thanks to Emily for organizing everything. Ā And CONGRATULATIONS to Dan on turning 75!!! Ā š

Stein Family on Sullivan’s Island
It’s always so much fun when our good friends, Chris & Vicki Stein, come back to Charleston for a visit! Although they’ve moved away, they are still near and dear to our hearts.
While they were in town on vacation this week, Cami & I met up with them for dinner, a fun photo shoot, and a relaxing evening on the back deck of their beach house. We were blessed with an INCREDIBLE evening of mild temperatures and a DRAMATIC sunset sky!!! Those colors are not enhanced in the slightest!
We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the country…and to have such wonderful friends as the Steins.
Off-Camera Flash in Daytime
I get a lot of funny looks and silly questions when by-standers and tourists see me using my off-camera light-stand, especially when I’m on the beach, and in broad daylight!
So I decided to take a before-and-after to show what a difference it makes. I’m using four Nikon SB-800 flashes, attached to my home-made Quad-Bracket, mounted on top of a Bogen light-stand. Each is triggered by a RadioPopper Px receiver, and controlled by an SB-910 mounted to my Nikon D4. All flashes were in Group A and manually dialed in at 1/4 power. Camera settings were f5.6 at 1/250th and ISO 50. The stand is placed 30-degrees to camera right.
Many thanks to the Clark family for another AWESOME annual family photo shoot!!! š
