LaDawn & Dan at Sea Pines Resort and Honey Horn Plantation

Last weekend may have been a little wet. But NOTHING could dampen LaDawn & Dan’spirits as they joined together in a beautiful ceremony on the legendary 18th Green at Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island!

Now living in Colorado, LaDawn & Dan are fun, energetic, and love being outdoors. So it was great to see them get their dream of an outdoor wedding. Many thanks to my good friend and wonderful photographer, Kelli McCann, who joined me in covering their day. We all had a BLAST working and laughing together!!!

After the ceremony, everyone was transported by Old Savannah Tours trolleys over to historic Honey Horn Plantation for a very elegant, yet rustic, reception. It was the perfect backdrop for LaDawn & Dan’s laid back personalities.  A Floral Affair infused their artistry into the bouquets and floral arrangements.  The Southern Way provided the delicious food.  Signes Heaven Bound Bakery created a masterpiece.  And DJ Alan Palchak rocked the pavilion.

Amanda & Bill at Waterfront Park

Amanda & Bill are engaged!!! 🙂 We had an AWESOME time the other morning, enjoying the beautiful weather, hangin’ out at Waterfront Park, and capturing their fun and exciting personalities. Congratulations you guys! Can’t wait for your Big Day to get here…

Have Camera, Will Fly!

I grew up flying in small single-engine Cessna’s and bush-planes as a common means of getting around the tropical jungles and endless savanas of the Congo (DRC), where I grew up. But NOTHING could have prepared me for the wild acrobatic flying I did yesterday!!! 🙂

My good friend, fellow photographer, and badminton afficianado, Frank Oplanic, had arranged for me to get a flight with amazing aerial acrobatics flyer, Lee Graves, yesterday. Lee has been flying since he was 16 years old and routinely appears in air shows around the country. No roller coaster in the world can compare to the total and utter freedom, exhileration, and adreneline rush of doing barrel roles, loop-de-loops, vertical climbs, and free falls at 200+ mph.

Many thanks to Frank and Lee for the oportunity to check another item off my “bucket list”!

Erin & Jay at the I’On Creek Club

Erin & Jay met on eHarmony. I guess those “29 Dimensions of Compatibility” matched up pretty good…because in getting to know these two, they are PERFECT together! 🙂 Erin is fun, bubbly, and outgoing. Jay is a hopeless romantic and the nicest guy you could meet. I had so much fun being a part of their lives from our first meeting, to their Engagement and Bridal sessions, to the Big Day!

My good friend, Michell Frizzell, joined me to cover the wedding. We met up with Erin and the girls at the Inn at I’On, which is also where the couple spent their wedding night. After photographing Erin’s side, we went an picked on Jay and the guys at the I’On Creek Club. Their ceremony was held under the oak tree on the lawn. And the reception followed inside the club house.

Jill Kruger of Mobile Marriage did a wonderful job officiating the ceremony. Ric Rush led the exciting entertainment during the reception. Thuy Patterson of Jade Water Designsdid a gorgeous job with all her floral artistry and tasteful decorations. Jacob’s Kitchen provided the delectible eatables.  And Kathy Treado kept everyone organized and on schedule throughout the day.

The “Karate Kid” and other Scenes from Nature

I finally had a day off yesterday! So what else would I do besides grab my camera and go for a nice long canoe paddle. 🙂  The Great Egret in this first image was cracking me up. He was balancing on this branch, swaying in the breeze, and holding the PERFECT Karate Kid pose!

All images photographed with the Nikon D300. (I prefer that camera over my D3 for wildlife because of the extra reach the 1.5x crop factor gives me.) Some of the birds were shot from a tripod with the Nikkor 200-400 f4 VR with Nikon TC14eII attached. The sunset and other birds were shot hand-held using the 70-200 f2.8 VRII with the new TC20eIII attached. This is the first tele-converter with aspheric optics and is pretty amazing combo on the 70-200! The wide-angle work was done with the 14-24 f2.8. Enjoy!

A-B-C Lighting with CLS and RadioPopper

I’ve been shooting with Strobist-style off-camera since before it was the “new black”. I just love using small strobes to create big light. And it’s as easy as A-B-C!

Here’s how I set up for this portrait of the incredible team of lawyers at Clore Law Group on Monday.

Master: —  The three dashes mean my master flash is not contributing to the exposure, just controlling the other flashes.
Group A: 1 SB-800 to camera-right, firing through 60 umbrella for soft but directional main light.
Group B: 1 SB-800 clamped to inside railing at top of stairs with a Bogen Justin Clamp and firing down the stairs for a key light.
Group C: 1 SB-800 on Bogen light stand down the hall and around corner aimed back at wall under staircase for a kicker.

Once I had everything in place, I could control all the lights from the SB-900 mounted on my Nikon D3. I manually adjusted the levels of each independantly until I found the balance I was looking for, and locked it in. Since I use the RadioPopper Px system on all my flashes, I didn’t have to worry about the limitations of line-of-sight.

It’s simple, it’s versatile, and it works. It’s as easy as A-B-C!

Clore Law Group

I had photographed Mark Clore for Super Lawyers Magazine several months back. So I was honored when they thought of me after they moved into their amazing new office downtown and needed new photos for their website! They are a great group of folks! I highly recommend Mark and the Clore Law Group.

Erin’s Bridal Portraits at Boone Hall Plantation

Erin & Jay’s wedding last night at the I’On Creek Club was one of the most exciting weddings I’ve been to in a long time. I felt completely enveloped by positive energy throughout the entire day. The majority of that came from Erin, who is easily one of the most fun and energetic brides I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. She did a STUNNING job on her Bridal Portraits that we photographed at Boone Hall Plantation several weeks ago!

Ginny & Justin at John Wesley UMC and the SC Aquarium

Cami & I have known Justin for quite some time. But we didn’t know his family. So imagine my surprise when I showed up to photograph Katie & Adam’s fabulous wedding in March of 2009…and of all people, Justin walks up.  As it turns out, he and Adam are brothers!!! Fast forward to a few months ago when we were so honored and so excited to get a call from Justin, saying he had found the lady of his dreams and wanted us to be a part of it!  🙂

I had so much fun getting to know Ginny during her gorgeous Bridal Shoot. And already knowing how much fun Justin is to hang out with, it as obvious we were going to all have a BLAST on their wedding day…and I was absolutely correct. Their ceremony was at the stately John Wesley UMC. The Partaaay…ahem…I mean the Reception was at the exotic South Carolina Aquarium. Everyone had an amazing time! And to top it all off, Ginny & Justin made their grand escape by boat while guests waved sparklers from the terrace above!

To see the rest of their photos, head over to www.chrisandcami.zenfolio.com.  CONGRATULATIONS Ginny & Justin! May God bless you as you begin this new chapter in your lives!!!

Brittney & Jimmy’s Folly Beach Engagement Shoot

Last year I had the privilege of photographing Jimmy’s sister’s wedding, Alison, when she married Kevin. This year, it’s Jimmy & Brittney’s turn! 🙂 For their engagement session we headed out to my favorite spot on Folly Beach. It was threatening to rain, but we decided to go for it. And boy were we rewarded for our tenacity! The evening sky turned super dramatic and we got some AMAZING images that I can’t wait to add to my portfolio. Here are a few fav’s.

CONGRATULATIONS Jimmy & Brittney…can’t wait for your Boone Hall Bridal Shoot, Brittney!
