Jacquelyn & Craig at Bulow Plantation

Jacquelyn & Craig are a fun-loving, outdoors-exploring, always-on-the-go couple. So we hit it off right away! Plus of course they have a beautiful yellow lab named Bailee. So how could we resist when they asked us to photograph their special day?!? 🙂

Their ceremony and reception were held at the elegant, yet rustic, Bulow Plantation. I was one of the first photographers ever to shoot at this cool spot…and I always enjoy working with the dramatic backdrops it provides.  The pine grove island has such a unique atmosphere…there’s no place like it in the area!

Our mutual friend, Christy Loftin, did a beautiful job with their ceremony. And all of Jacquelyn & Craigs wedding party, family, and friends were a joy to work with and so much fun to be around. This will definitely be a special celebration in my heart forever!  To see more of their photos, visit www.chrisandcami.zenfolio.com.

CONGRATULATIONS Jacquelyn & Craig! May God bless your new journey together!!!

Explore. Dream. Discover.

Mark Twain once wrote:

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

I photograph this inspiring scene at Waterfront Park while waiting for a beautiful young lady to arrive for her Bridal Session. I wonder what her new journey will be like. Will she catch the trade winds in her sails? Will I? Will you?

Water Hazard

While walking Ralston Creek course on Daniel Island during the PGA Nationwide Tour Pro-Am Celebrity Tournament yesterday, I had a few quit moments between rounds of players. The sun was shining, the temp was perfect…it was just a gorgeous day to be outside. As I stood in the shade of a large oak tree waiting for the next group to come alone, I saw this Great Heron strolling through the water hazard behind me…not a care in the world. 🙂

PGA Nationwide Tour Championships Celebrity Pro-Am Jam

I’m photographing the PGA Nationwide Tour Championships later this week. To kick things off, they had a Pro-Am Celebrity Tournament today. Bill Murray is such a NUT!!! And Darius Rutger from Hootie & The Blowfish is quite a character too. 🙂 Others in the tournament included Cold Ford, Eric Bass, Edwin McCain, Branford Marsalis, Ahmad Rashad, and tons of other big names.

Great Egret

We take it for granted. But I often marvel at the beautiful wildlife we get to enjoy here in the Lowcountry! I’m always on the lookout, with camera nearby, when I’m driving home from photo shoots. Returning from a beach session the other morning, I happened on this stately creature with the blue sky reflected in the tidal pool behind him.

Brittany & Michael at Old Wide Awake Plantation

Brittany & Michael tied the knot last weekend in a gorgeous celebration at Old Wide Awake Plantation. I absolutely LOVED their theme of an “elegant southern picnic”. 🙂 The plantation house was artistically adorned with rustic decor. Every detail was planned out, right down to the mason jars for drinks and candied apples for favors.

Brittany was an absolutely stunning bride with such a bubbly personality! And Michael, a chef on Kiawah Island, was a blast to work with! To see more of their photos visit www.chrisandcami.zenfolio.com.

CONGRATULATIONS Brittany & Michael!!! May God Bless you as you begin this new journey together.

Here’s the Kicker!

Recently I’ve thoroughly enjoyed teaching my Photo Mentor Sessions!  These are private, highly personalized, Creative Lighting workshops.  If you’re interested, please check out www.lightbending411.com for more details.

Yesterday I had a wonderful session with good friend and super talented photographer, Jennings King.  She brought along her friend and amazing model, Katie Brown.  Jennings really likes the organic look of natural light.  So one of the things we worked on was the ability to add small strobes as “kickers” to an already naturally lit scene.  Sometimes a gentle kiss of light from a precisely placed kicker is all it takes to transform an image from good to GREAT!  🙂

First Light

I was walking Marley, our golden retriever, early this morning and came across this statuesque great blue heron. He was perfectly perched on the edge of the pond with just a tiny shaft of the rising sun shining between two trees and hitting him like a spotlight.

Kiawah Island Herons

On my way home from a family portrait session on Kiawah Island, the tide was high, and the herons were out fishin’. It was my last assignment for the day. The overcast day made for soft, saturated light.  So I pulled over and enjoyed the beautiful marsh and all the activities until the scene was enveloped by darkness.
