Wassaw Island NWR

This is National Wildlife Refuge Appreciation Week.

To kick off the week, the US Fish & Wildlife Service invited a few folks to visit the protected habitat and beautiful landscape that is Wassaw Island, GA. Located off the coast of Skidaway Island near Savannah, Wassaw Island is only accessible by boat. As part of the program, Joe Wiegand, the world’s premier Theodore Roosevelt reprisor, delighted us with his stories of days gone by.

Here are a few of my photos from the adventure. Enjoy!

Tabaka Family Studio Session

I’ve been hearing all about how adorable JD is…and I finally got to meet him yesterday!  He truly is a happy and handsome little boy!!! Congratulations to Tammy & Dave. It’s been two years since I photographed their wedding. What an honor to be able to also document their growing family. 🙂

Webster Family at Boone Hall Plantation

It’s been about five years now. But I remember Chad & Julie’s wedding like it was yesterday. 🙂 So it was really neat to catch up with them and meet their adorable son, Caleb.

They live in North Carolina now, where Chad is a Fireman, and Julie is a Physician’s Assistant. Julie had a PA conference to attend at in Charleston this week. Chad and Caleb tagged along for the fun of it. And we all met up at Boone Hall to explore the beautiful plantation together while they were in town. 🙂

Grace is Growing

I’ve had so much fun getting to know Grace during her Welcome to the World sessions!

Natalie & Bruce are AMAZING parents and just love this little sweetheart to pieces. How could they not, right?!? Yesterday I had my second session with her. It was a beautiful afternoon with gorgeous light. And Grace’s personality really came out. 🙂

Also…Happy Anniversary to Natalie & Bruce!!!

Anna & TJ in Greer, SC

Last weekend, Cami & I had the honor of photographing some promotional images for a brand new wedding venue coming to Greer, SC. The property is absolutely beautiful with tons of great vignettes for wedding photos.

Our friends Travis & Adelle Graham were kind enough to recommend Anna & TJ to be our models for the shoot. They were PERFECT! I loved their youthful energy!!!  We had a ton of fun creating lots of great images of this amazing couple.  🙂

Many thanks to Mrs. Osbon for hiring us, to Susan for coordinating everything, and of course to Anna & TJ for giving us the “look” we were after!

The Weaver Family at Boone Hall Plantation

What a BEAUTIFUL family! I had so much fun working with Lauraleigh, Lyniel, and their wonderful girls. We met at Boone Hall Plantation for it’s amazing variety of scenic backdrops. I loved everyone’s energy and all the creative ideas they brought with them. I can’t wait to keep up with these guys and watch their girls grow into fine youn ladies!!!

Amanda & Bill at St. Luke’s Chapel and Dunes West Resort

Amanda & Bill’s wedding was an absolutely beautiful celebration between two wonderful families, and two people truly in love! You really couldn’t meet two nicer people. I had an absolute BLAST working with them!!!

I met up with Amanda and her girls while getting ready at the Dunes West Golf Club. Everyone was in great spirits and we made some beautiful photos at this scenic location. Their ceremony was held at St. Luke’s Chapel, where I met up with Bill and his gang. This is one of my favorite churches in Charleston! I love all the great backdrops their courtyard provides.

The service was simply beautiful and Spirit-led. Amanda & Bill just couldn’t stop stealing glances at each other. 🙂 The beautiful flowers and bouquets were created by the faboulous folks at Tiger Lily. And many thanks to Tracy Perrine for coordinating and keeping everyone running smoothly.

After a few family photos in the sanctuary, everyone headed back to Dunes West for a fabulous reception. As always, Jay Maxwell did an amazing job of keeping the energy high and the festivities jamming.

CONGRATULATIONS Amanda & Bill! May God bless you as you begin your new journey together!!!

Amanda’s “Charleston Charm” Bridal Shoot

Amanda & Bill’s wedding FINALLY arrived last weekend! YAY!!! 🙂 It’s been such a joy getting to know them and their family.

I normally don’t get a chance to share bridal portraits because we don’t want to spoil the “surprise” of the wedding gown. But now that the wedding is over, I wanted to share how beautiful Amanda looked in her wedding dress. We selected one of my favorite areas in charming downtown Charleston as the backdrop for her shoot.

Enjoy! Wedding photos are coming soon…

Gatorland Birding Experience

As I continued through my great Florida Birding Adventure this past spring, I visited Gatorland. Located near Orlando, the park was founded by Owen Godwin in 1949, and is still privately owned by his family today.

They call it the “Alligator Capital of the World”. But as usual, I wasn’t there for the gators…I was there for the birds. It’s truly amazing how acclimated all the different species of nesting birds have become towards humans in that area. Getting close and taking the time to wait for great images is easy to do.  As you can see, I was even able to setup a few off-camera flashes for some creative “Lightbending” on some of the shots.

Here are just a few of my favorites from that segment of my adventure…

Graham’s Cake-Smashing 1 Year Portrait on Sullivan’s Island

Whitney & Logan were one of my ABSOLUTE favorite wedding couples from 2009! You can imagine my excitement when they called to ask if I would do the honors of photographing their son’s 1 Year Old Cake-Smashing Portrait Session on Sullivan’s Island!!! 🙂

Katie & Jeremy’s After Shoot

Travis & Adelle Graham are an AMAZING photography team from the upstate. This weekend they were down here shooting a wedding and decided to stay a few extra days. They invited me to join them on a fun After Shoot with their awesome bride and groom, Katie & Jeremy. We had a BLAST down at Cherry Point in Rockville on Wadmalaw Island…just playing, laughing, and lightbending together!!!

Venus Williams leads Washington Kastles to World TeamTennis title

CHARLESTON, S.C. (September 16, 2012) – Venus Williams led the Washington Kastles to their second consecutive World TeamTennis title today with a 20-19 victory over the Sacramento Capitals at the Family Circle Tennis Center in Charleston, S.C. Williams was also named the Finals MVP, winning her sets in women’s doubles, mixed doubles and the decisive final set of women’s singles.

The win gives the Kastles 32 consecutive match wins, the second longest streak in U.S. pro sports history. The top mark is 33, held by the NBA’s 1971-72 Lakers.

With the overall score tied at 15-15 heading into the final set, Williams edged Coco Vandeweghe 5-4 in women’s singles to give the Kastles their third title in the past four seasons. Although Williams was part of championship teams in Philadelphia and Washington, this was the first time she had played in the championship match. She credited her Kastles teammates for giving her the edge in a tight final set. “I had to come out on fire today,” said Williams. “Knowing I had to play for my team was motivating.”

“Coco played her heart out,” said Sacramento coach Wayne Bryan. ” I’m very proud of our team and congratulations to the Kastles.”

Sacramento led early when Kevin Anderson defeated Bobby Reynolds in the opening set, winning men’s singles 5-3. Anderson served up three aces and won 79 percent of his first serve points compared to 61 percent for Reynolds.

Washington broke Asia Muhammad’s serve twice in women’s doubles and closed out the set on Venus Williams’ serve, 5-1.

Men’s doubles was highlighted by brilliant shot-making by the Kastles’ Leander Paes but it was the Caps that broke Paes serve for a 2-1 lead. Anderson pushed the lead to 4-2 on his serve and broke Paes serve for a second time to take the set 5-2 and lead 11-10 at halftime.

Coach Wayne Bryan started Anderson in mixed doubles to take advantage of his big serve and the strategy worked as Sacramento won the first game and broke Paes serve to lead 2-0. Washington broke back against Vandeweghe’s serve then Williams held to tie the set at 2-2. After a seesaw battle that evened the score at 4-all, Washington pulled out the set win in a 9-point tiebreak, 5-4 (1).
