Mike & Danielle’s Maternity Shoot at Runnymede Plantation

Mike and I go way back! He was my boss at the Family Circle Cup for many years, we became partners in crime on the tennis courts, we thrashed the nets at the CofC badminton league, and over the years have become great friends.

I have NO IDEA how he managed to snag Danielle! She is the worlds biggest sweetheart, super intelligent, and of course absolutely gorgeous. Cami & I love her to death. And we’re so excited about these two finally becoming “mommy” and “daddy”. 🙂

Photographing Mike & Danielle’s Maternity Shoot was an absolute pleasure. We decide to start out at the picturesque Runnymede Plantation. The quiet setting along the Ashley River was just perfect. Then after a wardrobe change (and a nap for the expectant mother…HA), we met up at Waterfront Park for a few in more casual attire.

Many thanks to Mike & Daniel for being such a joy to work with. And many thanks to Tim at Runnymede Plantation for his kind generosity!

Grace’s 2-Year Portraits

Grace & I are becoming friends! 🙂

I’ve been photographing her since she was just a weeeeee little thing. Earlier this week I caught up with her and her parents and her new dog, Chandler at their beautiful home. We had great fun together! And I absolutely LOVED how Chandler weezled his way into a couple shots…HA!

Trident Healthcare Service Awards Banquet

It doesn’t take much to show your employees how much you appreciate them. Trident Healthcare goes ABOVE AND BEYOND!!!

Last week I had the honor of photographing their annual Service Awards Banquet again. Held at the beautiful new Trident Technical College banquet hall, they go all-out on this party! And I KNOW how much the employees appreciate being recognized. There’s so much energy and excitement in the room…you can just feel it from the bottom of your feet to deep in your heart.

It’s always such a pleasure to be a part of fun corporate events and company parties. But THIS is definitely one of my favorites that I look forward to every year!

Mary & Ryan’s Charleston Style Engagement Session

I had so much fun hanging out with Mary & Ryan the other day…creating some really cool photos to celebrate their engagement!

Several months ago, Ryan proposed to Mary in the courtyard at The Mills House.  He picked this location because it was the EXACT spot where Mary’s dad had proposed to her mom many years ago!  How cool is THAT?!?

We wandered down the cobblestones of Chalmers Street, stopping at neat parks and historic backdrops along the way.  We wound our way through haunted Philadelphia Alley and along the colorful facades of State Street.  There are just so many fantastic backdrops representative of stylish Charleston in this part of town!

It was such an honor and so much fun to be a part of this special time in Mary & Ryan’s lives!  I can’t wait for their wedding to get here!!!

Charleston Rugged Maniac

Last weekend I had a BLAST shooting the wild and crazy Charleston Rugged Maniac competition at Boone Hall Plantation. It was great to work on my long-lens technique for the day.  All images shot with Nikon D4 and either 200-400VR f4 or 70-200VRII f2.8.  Enjoy checking these muddy maniacs from your nice clean computer desk…  🙂

Katie’s Bridal Shoot at Charlestowne Landing

Katie & Mat’s wedding a few weeks ago was SO MUCH FUN!!! Now that the cat’s out of the bag, I’m excited to finally be able to share some of my favorite shots from her Bridal Shoot.

Charlestowne Landing is one of my all-time-favorite locations in town for photo shoots. As the original colony that is now Charleston, I love the rich history behind this state park. But above all, I love the wide variety of beautiful lowcountry backdrops to work with! From sea oats to spanish moss, little ponds to big river views, black iron gates to avenues of live oaks…the possibilities are endless.

I met up with Katie and her mom one evening. Although it was chilly, the light was gorgeous! We had so much fun we ran over the time we expected…eventually being “asked to leave” by the nice park ranger. 🙂

Corporate Greenscreen Event in San Antonio

Last week I had a really neat assignment in San Antonio, TX!!!

I’ve photographed several assignments for the US Grains Council recently. So I was excited when they asked if I could handle a very cool promotional project they had in mind. The main trade-show they attend each year is the Commodity Classic. This is America’s largest farmer-led, farmer-focused convention & trade show! They asked me if I’d come to San Antonio, TX, and create a greenscreen photo oportunity at one end of their booth to attract attention and draw interest.

Being an international organization, we created 5 different digital backgrounds for them that folks could choose from, each representing parts of the world where the USGC has strong influence: Japan, Malaysia, Morocco, Panama, and China. Individuals, couples, families, groups of co-workers…everyone had a BLAST, and our booth was a huge hit! I even had the four young men that star in the new movie Farmland (due out this spring) stand on the Great Wall of China!!!  Everyone’s prints were then mounted into custom folders that also served as a brochure, giving lots of information about the US Grains Council.

My setup was designed to be simple, efficient, and above all…wireless. The trade-show had over 7,000 attendees!!! We didn’t want anyone tripping on any wires. Lighting consisted of a gang of SB-800 speedlights, all triggered wirelessly via RadioPoppers from my SB-900 master. I photographed everyone with a Nikon D4, which instantly sent the images to my laptop using the WT-5 wireless transmitter. At the laptop, participants could pick their favorite image, and choose their background. Then literally 13 seconds later their beautiful high-resolution 5×7 print popped out of the DS40 dye sublimation printer. Everyone LOVED the instant gratification of walking away with their photo in hand.

Many thanks to my good friend (and greenscreen guru) Gary at Coleman Photography for helping me put all the pieces together.  The event was a lot of fun for me, and a huge success for my client. We’ve already talked about doing it again next year!!!

Block Creek Natural Area

TEXAS. What an amazing state, with so much to see and do! I recently returned from a fantastic few days at the Block Creek Natural Area, photographing the amazing abundance of wildlife there. It truly is a hidden gem for anyone interested in birds!

Located in the hill country north of San Antonio, the BCNA is on a private nature ranch known as Turkey Hollow, nestled among a number of very large old ranches. It’s only a few miles from the quaint little town of Fredericksburg. But when you’re there you feel like you’re in an oasis out in the wild.

To quote from their website: “The landscape, which includes sparkling creeks and waterfalls, ancient gnarled oaks, jutting boulders, and unusual land forms, offers a wealth of photographic opportunity.” And of course the well-maintained photo blinds arranged around the ponds and forest glades make for perfect wildlife viewing and photographing oportunities.

Larry and Sharon were incredible hosts during my stay…taking me on a walking tour of the property, helping me identify and better understand all the wildlife I saw, and making me feel right at home with their home-cooked meals. They maintain the property, manage the wildlife, and run the Block Creek Bed & Breakfast.  They even arranged for the AMAZING folks at the Last Chance Forever birds of prey rehabilitation center to bring out some of their beautiful creatures for us to photograph!

If you love birds and marveling at nature, while mainaining some of the comforts of home (delicious meals, excellent wifi connection, etc.), I highly recommend visiting the Block Creek Natural Area. There are a number of excellent photography workshops available there throughout the year…and I hope to be leading one of them this June! More info on that to come…

Brittainy & Nate – Round Two!!!

One of my favorite couples EVER, Brittainy & Nate are expecting “round two”!!! 🙂 So it was with pleasure that I joined up with them and little Mason for a beautiful photo shoot at Hampton Park…

Sandy Ericksen Design

I had a really fun shoot with one of my FAVORITE interior designers last week. Sandy Ericksen is so creative and always full of neat ideas…I HIGHLY recommend her!!! This was a beautiful home in downtown Charloston, with lots of fabulous angles and details.

United Way at Charleston Marriott

A few nights ago I had the pleasure of photographing the Trident United Way “Annual Celebration” at the Charleston Marriott Hotel.

We love photographing corporate events, galas, and awards banquets. But this one was particularly special! What an honor to be a part of such a wonderful organization!!!

Many thanks to my friend Brooks for the kind referral…and to Nina and Demetria for all their hard work in organizing the event.
