Matthew’s Senior Portraits

Gereese was one of Cami’s best friends growing up in Ohio! So it was extra special when she and Guy called to say they were driving down from PA for vacation, and wanted us to do Matthew’s Senior Portraits while they were here!

The crazy thunderstorms that afternoon didn’t slow us up a bit. We had all kinds of crazy fun in the studio portion of the shoot. Then we crossed our fingers and drove downtown for the location portion. But it was still raining when we got there. No problem! We ducked into Southend Brewery for a delicious meal…and magically the rain subsided. So off we went for some dramatic images around downtown!

It was so great to see everyone and be a part of Matthew’s celebration!

Picard Family at Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms

The Picards are from Atlanta, Georgia. But they love vacationing and traveling together. So when Julie read about Wild Dunes and what a great place it was for summer vacations, they couldn’t resist!

Lucky or me, they also read about our Summer Beach Family Sessions, and booked us to capture their crazy family photos while they were here. 🙂

Grace Grows Up!

One of my favorite things to do is photograph our Welcome to the World (or WTTW) package…celebrating life as we document a child’s first year on planet earth!

It’s been such an honor watching baby Grace grow into such an adorable little girl! She’s just over a year old now, and her personality is really starting to shine through. I can’t wait to watch her continue to grow into a beautiful young lady someday!!!  🙂

England Family at Folly Beach

Morris Island Inlet, at the northern tip of Folly Beach, is one of my favorite beaches for family portraits. It offers such a wide variety of scenic backdrops…tall sand dunes covered in sea oats, huge rock formations, old wooden barriers, bone-yards of fallen trees and driftwood…and of course the iconic Morris Island Lighthouse.

After photographing the historic lighthouse at sunrise, the England Family joined me for a fun extended family photo shoot. Ranging from 18-months to almost 4-years, the grand kids were absolutely adorable. We had a beautiful day, with gorgeous light, and smiling faces!!! 🙂

Morris Island Lighthouse

Morris Island Inlet, at the northern tip of Folly Beach, is one of my favorite beaches for family portraits. It offers such a wide variety of scenic backdrops…tall sand dunes covered in sea oats, huge rock formations, old wooden barriers, bone-yards of fallen trees and driftwood…and of course the iconic Morris Island Lighthouse.

The historic lighthouse is unusual in that it now stands several hundred feet offshore. When it was built in 1876 the light was approximately 1,200 feet (370 m) from the water’s edge. However, the construction in 1889 of the jetties which protect the shipping lanes leading to Charleston Harbor altered ocean currents, resulting in the rapid erosion of Morris Island and the destruction of many structures and historical sites (such as Fort Wagner). By 1938 the shoreline had reached the lighthouse, forcing its automation as it was no longer safe or practical to keep it manned. In 1962 the Morris Island Light was decommissioned and replaced by the new Charleston Light, located on Sullivan’s Island at the north end of the harbor.

There is a foundation to try and preserve this amazing beacon of light to sailors of bygone eras: http://www.savethelight.org/. No matter how many times I do shoots at Morris Island Inlet, the steadfast majesty of the Morris Island Lighthouse always leaves an impression on me!

Meghann & Greg’s Charleston Harbor Engagement Session

Meghann & Greg are our very favorite next door neighbors! Imagine our excitement when, after dating for like a gazillion years, Greg asked Meghann to be his bride!!! 🙂

Cami and I are SO EXCITED to be a part of their wedding. Earlier this week we went out on a fantastic adventure on their boat, in search of some fun Engagement Photos for them. Starting out at Ripley Point Marina, we sped to various locations around Charleston Harbor…from Shem Creek to Sullivan’s Island…the new Arthur Ravenel Bridge to The Battery…and everywhere interesting in between.

With the recent advances in editing software, I’ve started using my Garmin GPS watch to create a tracklog of my favorite photo shoots. With reverse geo-encoding, Adobe Lightroom automatically populates the metadata of each photo with the exact location coordinates, and automatically fills in City, State, etc. Here’s a screen-shot of the tracklog, showing our route and where we stopped for photos. This is fun stuff! Plus it’s an added value to our clients that not many photographers are offering yet. Imagine 30 years from now when their Meghann & Greg’s kids find these images buried on some old hard-drive? What fun to be able to look through the metadata and locate where their parent’s engagement photos were taken?!?

Many thanks to their friend, Eric, for captaining the boat for us. We had a BLAST on the water with Meghan & Greg! And we can’t wait to be a part of their Big Greek Wedding!!!

Sandra Ericksen Design on Kiawah Island

I always enjoy working with interior designers…like photographers, they have such a creative eye. Sandy Ericksen is one of my all-time favorites. I love how she can take a boring room and completely transform it into something warm, inviting, and interesting!

Molly & Justin’s Folly Beach Engagement Session

The biggest honor I get is when another photographer, graphic designer, or artist wants to work with us! To me, that is the ultimate compliment!!!

So when Molly, a beautiful photographer from North Carolina, saw some of our images and asked us to be her photographer, I was elated! I’ve been so excited and looking forward to working with Molly and her fiance, Justin, for weeks. Finally, the day of their Engagement Session arrived!

Molly & Justin used to spend lots of time together on Folly Beach back in their college days. The area has some special memories. So we decided to do their photo shoot out there. We couldn’t have asked for a prettier day with more amazing light to work with!

I can tell Molly & Justin are he best of friends, and truly have a special bond! It was so much fun watching them, getting to know them, and collaborating together to come up with these awesome images for them.

CONGRATULATIONS Molly & Justin! You guys ROCK!!! 🙂

Jenny & Nate’s Graphiti Engagement Session

Jenny & Nate first met when he asked her if he could have a piece of gum. I LOVE THAT!!! They are a unique couple…have such a fun story…and share an amazing love for life and for each other!

For their engagement session, they wanted something “different”. After tossing around lots ideas, we decided to start out at the infamous Sheepman Graffiti Wall on James Island. Painted by Doug “The Sheepman” Panzone, with permission by the owners, this is a 10-panel mural of amazing street art. Nate brought his home-built trike, to complete the urban motif. We had a BLAST!!!

Then it was off to James Island County Park, where we had time to walk some of the beautiful trails. Eventually we ended up on the fishing dock with its gorgeous view of the setting sun over low-country marsh. It was the perfect end to a perfect day for a perfect couple!!!

Kelli & Tom’s Downtown Engagement Session

Sweet little Kelli is getting married! I’ve been photographing their whole family for years. What an absolute honor to now also be able to capture this beautiful time in her life where she has pledged her love to the man of her dreams!!!

It was great to get to know Tom during their downtown Engagement Session. A Citadel man, he is a true gentleman with athletic good looks and a genuine kindness that is so hard to come by these days.  Tom proposed to Kelli at Waterfront Park.  So we started our session there…a special place for them!

I can’t wait to be there for Kelli & Tom on their wedding day!!!

Lightbending at Runnymede Plantation

There’s something about a beautiful red-head that just says “exotic”!!!

Red hair only occurse in 1-2% of the human population. It’s caused by a mutation in the MC1R protein, that brings about high levels of the reddish pigment pheomelanin and relatively low levels of the dark pigment eumelanin.

A few days ago I was looking for a fresh face to work with in my Lightbending workshops…and found it in the girl next door! Introducing…in her modeling debut…Rachel, the beautiful and gifted daughter of our neighbors, Eric & Linda. She did an AMAZING job!!! 🙂 Also, many thanks to their other gorgeous daughter and model, Julia, for helping with hair and wardrobe!

The shoot was held on the historic and dramatic grounds of Runnymede Plantation. Described as “an artist’s dream”, this venue is truly breathtaking! Nestled along the Ashley River, among other historic plantations such as Middleton Place and Magnolia Gardens, this is a much more private, rustic, and less traveled venue. I can’t thank Tim Whitfield at Runnymede enough for granting us private access to this beautiful property!
