Last weekend, on July 4th, the 250th birthday of America, I had the distinct honor of photographing Yanna & Tim’s beautiful wedding in Summerall Chapel at The Citadel!!!
Summerall Chapel is a historic, non-denominational chapel built in 1936 on the campus of The Citadel in Charleston, SC. It serves as a center for worship, patriotism, remembrance, and celebrations like weddings for both cadets and the public. It is famous for its grand scale, 197-foot aisle, and thirty stunning stained-glass windows.
Yanna and Tim met at The Citadel. After graduation, they both went into the military. Tim has been deployed, and Yanna is stationed at Quantico. But they found their way back to campus this weekend to tie the knot where it all began! It was a beautiful bi-lingual ceremony in both English and Spanish. Yanna’s family is from Colombia. It was wonderful to experience not just the joining of these two individuals, but also the joining of their shared cultures and languages!
I photographed the wedding with two Nikon Z9 cameras. The high-resolution, incredible detail, and excellent low-light performance made these cameras perfectly suited for the job. I used a Nikkor Z 14-30 f4 to capture the super-wide shots showcasing the interior of the chapel, a Nikkor Z 24-70 f2.8 II for the general candids and many of the portraits, the Nikkor Z 70-200 f2.8 II for tighter portraits and many of the telephoto shots during the ceremony, and the Nikkor Z 400 f4.5 for even tighter shots during the service. A DJI Mini 3 Pro provided some unique aerial views.
Many thanks to Beth Donehue at Grace by Design Special Events for trusting me to cover this wonderful day! Thank you also to Nicole DeNeane for keeping everything on track and organized.
CONGRATULATIONS Yanna & Tim!!! We wish you all the best as you begin this new journey together…
