J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home – Location Photos

I always enjoy working with Jenny at Gritty Gal Marketing, and this recent project gave us a wonderful opportunity to showcase the facilities, architecture, and attention to detail at all five J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home locations throughout the Charleston area.

From beautifully appointed interiors to architectural details and exterior views, my goal was to create a collection of professional marketing photographs that captures the character of each location and helps families get a feel for these spaces before they visit. We also incorporated aerial photography to provide a different perspective on the properties and their surroundings.

One of the most fascinating things about working with Stuhr is the incredible history behind the name. Established in 1865 by Henry D. Stuhr, the business began as “Stuhr and Bruning Cabinet Makers and Undertakers” at 56 Wentworth Street in downtown Charleston. In those days, cabinetmakers often built caskets, making the transition into funeral services a natural extension of their craft!

More than 160 years later, J. Henry Stuhr remains the oldest continuously family-owned and operated funeral home in South Carolina. The business has grown from that original downtown shop into a trusted Lowcountry institution, with five locations serving families throughout the greater Charleston area. Now in its fifth generation of family leadership, Stuhr continues a tradition of compassionate service that has spanned generations. What an amazing legacy!

For this assignment, I used my Nikon Z9 paired with the Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 and Nikkor Z 24-120mm f/4 lenses to capture the interiors, architectural features, and exterior details. The wide-angle 14-30mm was especially useful for showcasing the rooms and larger spaces, while the 24-120mm gave me flexibility to highlight the finer details. I also brought along my DJI Mavic 3 Pro to capture aerial views of the properties.

A big thank-you to Jenny and the team at Gritty Gal Marketing for bringing me along for this project, and to J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home for the opportunity to help tell the story of such a longstanding Charleston family business. It’s always rewarding to combine photography, architecture, and local history in a project that celebrates a business with such deep roots in our community!
