I had an absolute blast photographing Iowa Corn‘s incredible Tailgate Party before the Cy-Hawk Series football game last weekend between the University of Iowa and Iowa State University. As the title sponsor of the big game, ICGA pulled out all the stops for their members, and it was a fantastic way to kick off an exciting afternoon in Iowa City!

More than 1,500 farmers, ICGA staff members, and their families came together for the pre-game celebration. The atmosphere was everything you would hope for at a great Iowa tailgate—lots of food, plenty of laughs, great conversations, and an amazing amount of school spirit. There was never a shortage of fun moments to photograph!

One of my favorite things about event photography is capturing those unscripted moments that show how much people are enjoying themselves. From families and friends catching up to groups of farmers celebrating another great year and even some fun ribbing between Hawks and Cyclones, there was a tremendous sense of community throughout the afternoon. I especially enjoyed wandering through the crowd, looking for those spontaneous expressions and interactions that tell the story of the day.

It was a privilege to be there with the ICGA members and document the celebrations leading up to one of Iowa’s biggest sporting traditions. I always enjoy working with the Iowa Corn Growers Association, and this event was no exception!

Unfortunately I had to leave the party early, rush over to Kinnick Stadium, pick up my press pass, grab my photographer’s vest, and prepare to photograph the game. Game photos coming soon…
