What a fun day going back to school… without all the homework! I was hired to join my good friend Jason from Docent Prodigy for a photo and video assignment at James Island Christian School. Jason handled the video while I captured the still images, and together we were tasked with creating a fresh collection of marketing photos and video clips for the school to use on social media, its website, and other promotional materials.
Founded in 1994, James Island Christian School has been serving Charleston-area families for more than 30 years! JICS offers a complete educational journey from preschool through 12th grade, combining academic excellence with a Christ-centered environment. The school emphasizes small class sizes and individualized attention, while its four core values — Christ-centered, biblically based, academically excellent, and service-driven — help shape both classroom learning and character development. It’s easy to see those values in action when you spend a day on campus watching students learn, create, collaborate, and grow!
We had a blast experiencing a little bit of everything that makes a school day special at JICS! From hanging out with the band during practice and watching students tackle science projects to seeing young artists make their mark, practicing Spanish, reading Shakespeare, attending chapel, and running around with the kids during recess… we were right in the middle of it all!
My favorite part of assignments like this is capturing those authentic, unscripted moments that show the personality of a school and the energy of its students and teachers. These images will help James Island Christian School share what makes its community special with prospective families and the wider Charleston community.
Working alongside Jason was a treat, and we came away with some wonderful images and video clips. It was a great day filled with learning, creativity, laughter, and plenty of activity. Who says you can’t enjoy going back to school?!
