One of the things I love most about architectural photography is seeing how great design can transform a space. This week, I had the opportunity to photograph the newly redesigned Baker Collection dealership in Charleston, South Carolina. I was hired by Glick Boehm Architects to document their outstanding work, and the finished project is nothing short of spectacular.
The building immediately catches your attention with its bold geometric lines, dramatic angles, and expansive glass façade. Every perspective offers something different, making it a dream to photograph. Inside, the spacious showroom is just as impressive, housing an incredible collection of classic and exotic automobiles that perfectly complement the modern architecture. The combination of sleek design, polished finishes, and automotive history created endless opportunities for compelling images.
To capture the project, I relied on my Nikon Z9 paired with the Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 and Nikkor Z 24-120mm f/4 lenses. The ultra-wide lens allowed me to emphasize the scale and unique architectural features, while the 24-120mm was ideal for photographing everything from sweeping interior views to the intricate details of the beautifully restored automobiles. I also flew my DJI Mavic 3 Pro drone to capture aerial photographs that showcase the building’s distinctive design and its prominent location.
After finishing the daytime photography, I returned that evening for one of my favorite parts of any architectural assignment—twilight photography. As the sun disappeared below the horizon, the dealership came to life. The warm interior lighting illuminated the glass exterior, creating a beautiful glow that highlighted the building’s clean lines and inviting atmosphere. The contrast between the deep blue evening sky and the illuminated showroom produced some of my favorite images from the entire project.
Assignments like this remind me why I enjoy architectural photography so much. It’s incredibly rewarding to document a project where thoughtful design, skilled craftsmanship, and attention to detail come together so beautifully. My thanks to Deena at Glick Boehm Architects for the opportunity to photograph such an exceptional addition to Charleston’s architectural landscape.
