Credit One Charleston Open – Day 1

It was another EXCITING year for me to be covering the Credit One Charleston Open!!!

Since 1973, the Charleston Open has been a pioneer in women’s professional sports, creating milestones that over the years have directly influenced the popularity of women’s professional tennis. Much has changed over the years. But to this day, the tournament remains the largest women’s only tennis tournament in North America. This year’s roster included 5 of the Top 10 women on tour, 5 past champions, and 5 Grand Slam champions. Previous winners include notable names like Chris Evert, Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova, Serena Williams, Tracy Austin, Martina Hingis, Jennifer Capriati, Nadia Petrova, Madison Keys…and so many more!

Day 1 featured qualifying rounds, fun activities for Family Day, autograph sessions, and the Draw Party to determine the main draw singles bracket.

It was another EXCITING year for me to be covering the Credit One Charleston Open!!!

Since 1973, the Charleston Open has been a pioneer in women’s professional sports, creating milestones that over the years have directly influenced the popularity of women’s professional tennis world-wide. Much has changed over the years. But to this day, the tournament remains the largest women’s only tennis tournament in North America. This year I kicked off my coverage with a private “Iconic Photo Shoot” with last year’s returning finalists, Belinda Bencic and Ons Jabeur.

Siemens Medical Sailing Regatta

Every day is different! That’s one of the best parts about my job!!!  🙂

Yesterday I got to photograph a fun sailing regatta for Siemens Medical. Being out on the Committee Boat with Captain Mike and Captain Dave, the Professional Race Official, was a real treat. The weather in Charleston Harbor was perfect with a steady wind, a balmy 75 degrees, and blue skies!

Many thanks to Lee at www.experienceholycity.com for bringing me on board (pun intended)! And CONGRATULATIONS to Angela and all the winners from Siemens Medical!!!

Orangegrove Basketball

My friend Erin called me the other day and invited me to cover a high-school basketball game for her. It was so much fun!

Shooting with the Nikon Z9 and Nikkor Z 70-200 f2.8 in 3D tracking mode with eye-detect turned on was a dream. I also frequently switched into DX mode, providing an effective focal length of 105-300 f2.8. Settings were ISO 8000, 1/1000sec, f2.8, Auto WB, 10fps, and JPG fine.

The girls of Orangegrove played hard and eked out a thrilling victory in overtime over CE Williams. CONGRATULATIONS to Coach Alex and the girls. And MANY THANKS to Erin for the invitation.

FX Dance Performance at Queen Street Playhouse

It was both a pleasure and a challenge photographing the FX Dance Performance at the Queen Street Playhouse!

Capturing explosive movement in extremely low light conditions is probably the most difficult scanario for any camera to handle. But even with pushing the Z9 to 8,000 and 16,000 ISO, I was very impressed.

Many thanks to Allie for inviting us. She did an amazing job leading and choreographing this talented group of dancers!

Credit One Charleston Open – Champion’s Photos

After an AMAZING week of ferocious tennis, Belinda Bencic was crowned champion of the 2022 Credit One Charleston Open!!! After she had a chance to rest and recuperate from her 3-set triumph over Ons Jabeur, I met up with her in downtown Charleston for a few fun portraits of her with her new trophy!

Credit One Charleston Open – Day 8

Day 8 at the Credit One Charleston Open was semi-final Saturday! We are now down to two doubles teams and two singles players vying for the trophy.  But we also had some very special guests at the stadium today.  It was an honor to photograph 6 former champions, who returned to help the tournament celebrate its 50th Anniversary!!!  Can you name all of them?

Credit One Charleston Open – Day 5

Day 5 at the Credit One Charleston Open may have been stunted by rain and lightning…but it was still an awesome day filled with excitement and action!!!

Credit One Charleston Open – Day 4

Under threat of violent weather and tornado warnings, today’s action was cut short. But Day 4 of the Credit One Charleston Open still yielded some amazing action and awesome images!  🙂
