Shelia’s Designs

I’ve photographed for Sheila Thompson before…check out my portrait of the artist at work.  She is such a creative spirit and the biggest sweetheart on the planet!  I had the privilege of shooting some more of her new designs for their catalog.  But photographing beautiful garden decorations among bright flowers on sunny “spring” days in the middle of winter is kind of tough!  J  So we contacted Magnolia Gardens and were pleased to be able to do our shoot in their Conservatory.  Using Nikon’s amazing Creative Lighting System, controlled via RadioPoppers, I was able to simulate early morning sunlight streaming through the foliage.  So inspite of being in a dim Arboretum on an overcast day, the images came out great!

Savage & Savage P.A.

Well, apparently the nice folks at Savage & Savage law firm enjoyed working with me as much as I enjoyed working with them!  J  Shortly after I photographed Andy Savage for the cover of Super Lawyers Magazine, the firm contacted me about photographing all new images for their website and marketing material.  I spent all day with the team, photographing everything from head-shots to investigations, candids to courtroom drama.  They are a FANTASTIC group of folks…I couldn’t have asked for anyone more professional and enjoyable to work with.  Some of the images are on their website already, so check it out!

Super Lawyer Andy Savage

In January I got to do another shoot for one of my favorite editorial clients.  Super Lawyers Magazine asked me to photograph the subject of their next cover, Mr. Andy Savage.  If you live in Charleston, chances are you’ve heard that name.  If there’s a high-profile criminal case going on, he’s probably involved.  Plus his television show, The Savage Report, is a huge success.  I really enjoyed working with Mr. Savage and the folks at Savage & Savage during the photo shoot…what a great group of people!

The Banners are Up!

Driving across Daniel Island on my way to my tennis match in Mt. Pleasant today, I saw that the new Family Circle Cup Banners were finally up!  As the Official Photographer of this awesome tennis tournament, I always get a kick out of seeing my images draping the 4-story tall center stadium.  J  Besides last year’s Champion, Sabine Lisicki, there’s the 2008 Champion, Serena Williams, and the 2007 Champion, Jelena Jankovic.  Plus dozens of street banners are hanging from the lamp posts, depicting champions from all along the history of this long-running WTA Tour event.  This one is of Justine Henin, one of my favorite players…I’m thrilled to see her back out of retirement!

Ashley & Sherrod at The Wentworth Mansion

I always LOVE working at The Wentworth Mansion!  The cupola is so cool, the history is so rich, and the people there are always so nice.  So when Ashley & Sherrod told me that’s where he proposed and that’s where they wanted to do their Engagement Session, I was STOKED!!!  We had a blast and got a ton of fun images.  Here are a few of my favorite.  You can see the rest at www.chrisandcami.zenfolio.com

Time Pieces Music

Andy & Kim Marie of Time Pieces Music are a really unique and truly gifted couple!  I had a great time photographing their new promotional images for their website and brochures last weekend.  Listening to their music, being in the presence of their talent, and experiencing they joy they have in life was a real blessing.  Check out their website at www.timepiecesmusic.com.

Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?

My good friend and fellow photographer, Liz Duren, asked me to come and speak to her daughter’s 5th grade class about my experience growing up in Africa.  I love that show “Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader?”…which I surely am NOT!!!  So I was a little nervous.  J  But Daphne was so sweet and gave me a big fun hug when I arrived at James B. Edwards Elementary School.  I felt better after that!  Daphne introduced me to everyone to put me at ease.  The kids really seemed interested and had LOTS of questions.  I had a BLAST!  In between giggles I taught them a couple words in Kituba.  Plus they got a kick out of my authentic chief’s sword.  Here’s a few pics Liz took for me…

NEW Family Circle Cup Banner Announced

Only two more months until the Family Circle Cup!  As most of you know, I’ve been one of the Official Photographers of this amazing Professional Women’s Tennis event for many years now.  Each year, the best photo of the returning champion is selected for display on a 47-foot x 40-foot banner that hangs from the top of the stadium.  It’s been an honor to have had one of my images selected for the last few years in a row.  And this year…drum roll please…WE DID IT AGAIN!!!!  🙂   Mike Saia, the Communications Director at the FCC just emailed me a few minutes ago with the news and the final image they’ll be using.  I’m SO EXCITED!!!

On top of all the great women’s tennis action, this is also the Ten Year Anniversary of the FCC being located here in Charleston.  One of the longest running tournaments in WTA history, its former home was on Hilton Head Island.  To celebrate the milestone year, there will be guest apprearances from the likes of John McEnroe, Andy Roddick, and Anna Kournikova, plus many other special events and attractions.  So come on out…and make sure you say “Hi” to me while you’re there…04 Sabine Lisicki (Final)A

Wireless Lighting Workshop

My heart was beating, my head was spinning, everything was happening so fast! Before I knew it, Virgil was introducing me and I was ON!

I’m scared to death of public speaking. But I LOVE what I do and love sharing my passion with others! So after the initial jitters wore off, everything went great. My Wireless Lighting Workshop was held at Virgil’s gorgeous studio at CVI Photography. It was hosted by the Professional Photographer of South Carolina. And it was sponsored by folks like Nikon, RadioPopper, Zenfolio, MPIX, and Canvas On Demand. We had a fantastic turnout with about 40 photographers from around the state, some as far away as Greenville! I did a short presentation about the principles of wireless lighting. Then we went out into the historic alley behind the studio and did a LIVE photo shoot…no pressure there!!! J That was followed by dinner, fellowship, and networking. Finally we reconvened to review the images and have more discussion on tools and techniques. It really was a BLAST!

We couldn’t have pulled it off without the generous contributions of many talented folks. I have to thank Virgil, Eddie of ProWedding Entertainment, Frankie of Flowers by Frankie, Juliet of Juliet Elizabeth Photography, Molly of D’Lish Desserts, Dwight of Royal Limousine, Pamela of Makeup Artist Charleston, and my lovely model and favorite client, Brittany McDougal. The best part about the workshop is we raised a ton of donations, including lots of dog food, to donate to the Charleston Animal Society. Many thanks to everyone who participated and everyone who attended!!!

Sanders Law Firm

The Sanders Law Firm just revamped their website and are using one of my scenic photographs of the lowcountry as the cover image. I’m SO EXCITED! I shoot a good bit of landscape and wildlife in my personal work. Yup, on my days off my hobby is…you guest it…photography. J It’s wonderful to see others appreciate these images too. Check out their website at http://www.sanderslawfirm.com/. I’ve gotten to know T.O. Sanders over the years. He is an amazing and truly giving human being. I would highly recommend their firm to anyone!

Wireless Lighting Workshop!

I’ll be teaching a Creative Lighting Workshop on January 25th at my buddy Virgil’s CVI Photography Studio in Summerville. There are a lot of us out there that could use some sort of hands on training to creatively light our subjects with simple off-camera strobes. Adding a simple technique like this to your skill set can separate your work and help you stand out from the competition!

I am collaborating with Virgil, Tammy Bevins, the Professional Photographers of South Carolina and a couple of other vendors that we will recognize very soon.

Please RSVP now. Seats are limited. Email info@cviphotography.com to RSVP.

The workshop is free HOWEVER we are asking all attendees to bring a bag of dog food to donate to the Charleston Animal Society.

Hope to see some familiar faces there.
