Friday night I met a really great family for a beach shoot we’d planned at Folly. Unfortunately, weather didn’t cooperate and we had to reschedule. That’s the FIRST TIME that’s happened to me in like six months or more! L As I was starting my drive home I saw a scene that just stopped me in my tracks. Braving the crazy winds, drizzly rain, and distant lightning, I ran out and grabbed a couple timed exposure of a rarely deserted beach.

Cancelled Family Shoot turns into Fine Art
August 16, 2010Professional Photographer Magazine
August 15, 2010Cami & I are members of the Professional Photographer of America (PPA) and always attend their annual Imaging USA Conference & Trade Show. Last year I had one of my images featured at the show and on the cover of their Action News Magazine. (Check it out here: http://chrisandcami.com/blog/?s=Imaging+USA). This year, it turns out their using a shot of us from last year’s show at Nashville in an add promoting the 2011 show in Santa Fe! That’s me in the green shirt in the central photo, getting a kiss from my friend and fellow photographer, Kate McKinley on the left, and Cami, my lovely bride and boss, on the right. J Pretty funny!!! Thanks to Robbin Knight and Jebb Graff for pointing out my ugly mug is plastered on a national magazine…HA!
Shelby & Jim at the I’On Creek Club
August 14, 2010Last weekend, Jim & Shelby hosted one big CRAZY PARTY at the I’On Creek Club!!! Oh, and they also got married. J The amazing Stacey at Red Letter Events coordinated everything. Fred & Rob filled the air with soulfull sounds during the ceremony. DJ Rob Duren rocked the house at the reception. Granvilles Catering served the masses in style. Paula from Buy The Bunch infused a gorgeous pallete of color. And Ashley Bakery created a work of art for desert. Check out the fun Music Video of Jim & Shelby’s day at www.chrisandcami.com/blog. Then head over to www.chrisandcami.zenfolio.com to see the rest of the “evidence” of their beautiful event.
Romanian Orphanage
August 12, 2010One of the reasons for going to Romania was because I had offered my services to photograph the children in the orphanage at Campulung. These kids had probably never had a professional portrait taken of them in their lives. As we all know, having a great portrait of yourself can do wonders for your self-esteem! What better way to share with someone who speaks a different language than you do, that they are loved unconditionally and that they are uniquely and wonderfully made, than to give them a beautiful portrait of themselves?!? So I brought a small lighting kit with 2-Manfrotto 5001B light stands, 2-Westcott Collapsible Umbrellas, and 2-SB800 strobes. All of this stored perfectly into my ultra-compact lighting kit, which you can see here with the rest of the gear I took: http://chrisandcami.com/blog/2010/07/30/packing-for-romania/. I used a white window curtain with the sun back-lighting it for a nice high-key background. Along with this setup, we brought a small Canon Selphy die-sub printer, thanks to Erika. I set my D3 up so that one CF card slot was recording RAW files, and the other was recording a duplicate medium sized JPG file. As I photographed each child, Terry would take the card with the JPG image, help them pick out their favorite, and instantly pop out a print for them. Then Erika would take it over and help them place it in one of the colorful frames she’d brought. They LOVED IT!!! We were so blessed to see the excitement on their faces as they walked out and showed their portrait to their friends. J
Gypsy Village in Romania
August 12, 2010One day while we were in Romania we visited a Gypsy Village. It really touched my heart to see the conditions these people live in. They were so kind and gracious, allowing me to photograph them, photograph their families. One lady even came up to me and motioned for me to follow her. We wound our way back through the shacks to HER shack. It was a humble one-bedroom home…but it was HER home and she wanted her portrait in front of it! I was honored to oblige.
Welcome to Romania!
August 12, 2010As most of you know, I recently traveled to Romania. Here are a few of my favorites of some young people dressed in traditional outfits. We saw them warming up for a performance they had later that evening. When my new friends Mihaela & Ana asked them if they’d be interested in working with me, they went for it! Zack was there with me and did an excellent job as a lighting assistant, holding an SB-800 with a warming gel for a little extra kick to the lighting in some of the shots. I loved the colorful details in their outfits!
Isle of Palms Family Beach Portrait
August 12, 2010The Blalocks are spread out all over the country…Colorado, Georgia, Pennsylvania. So it was very special for them to be able to come together for a family vacation here in the Charleston area. I was honored that they contacted us about photographing their family portrait on the beach across from the house they had rented on IOP. We laughed, got wet, and had a great time creating some fun memories. J
Real Estate Business Portraits
August 12, 2010My friend and extraordinary real-estate agent, Nick Maffia, came over the other day to update his portfolio of images for his brochures, business cards, and marketing material. He’s lost a lot of weight recently and looks GREAT! Nick sold our old house and helped us buy the one we’re in. I highly recommend him if you need a real estate agent!
Laura & Kyle Do It on Folly Beach
August 7, 2010After courting her for a while, Kyle proposed to Laura over Christmas last year. Soon wedding plans were in full swing and through their fabulous wedding planner, Emmy at Peacock Events, I was the lucky photographer they picked to cover their special day! J Laura is a teacher…and you all KNOW how much I love and respect teachers! Her and Kyle live in Greer, where they’ll be returning after their fabulous Jamaica Honeymoon. Laura & Kyle rented a beautiful home on the marsh side of Folly beach where they could do their “I Do’s”. As it turns out, it was the home of my good friend and fellow photographer, Charlie Thiel!!! The late afternoon summer showers held off juuuust long enough for the ceremony and a few photos on the lawn. And they didn’t dampen the fun atmosphere and crazy party that ensued! I had a great time and LOVED being a part of Laura & Kyle’s beautiful wedding day. To see their fun Music Video, head over to www.chrisandcami.com/blog and click on the first image. To see their Engagement Portraits and the rest of their Wedding Photos, head over to www.chrisandcami.zenfolio.com. CONGRATULATIONS to Laura & Kyle…may you have a LIFETIME OF DREAMS together!!!
Mollie & Vincent’s Wadmallaw Island E-Session
August 6, 2010A couple days ago I met with Mollie & Vincent, who were in town on break from Furman University, to see if we’d be the right fit for them to photograph their wedding. Not only are they the coolest couple on the planet, but we hit it off so well that they decided they wanted me to go shoot their Engagement Portraits right away! So we zipped over to Mollie’s parent’s house, where they got changed. The property is this beautiful red barn-style house on the marsh way out on Wadmallaw Island. With the sun setting and sifting through the trees, the creek running through the marsh, the boardwalk, and that peaceful night sky…I was in heaven. We got some AMAZING photos and had a blast traipsing all around her parent’s property. We probably didn’t even get to HALF of it! But Mollie could tell I was loving the place, discovering all kinds of neat spots to shoot in. So she said she might let me do her Bridal Portraits out there too…WOOHOO! J I’m SO EXCITED for Mollie & Vincent! I hope you guys have fun back at Furman…and we’ll see you guys next time you’re in town!!!
